Elizabeth Buckley School at the Cridge Child Care Building

Welcome to
Elizabeth Buckley School

Elizabeth Buckley School is an independent K-6 school located at the Cridge Centre for the Family on Hillside Avenue. EBS offers a solid education based on the B.C. curriculum, and enrichment programs to enhance students' learning opportunities. Kindergarten is a full-day academic program. At EBS, experienced BC College of Teachers certified educators and knowledgeable Education Assistants work to support each student on his or her individual journey to success. Low student/teacher ratios ensure that each child's unique needs are addressed within a secure, nurturing environment. The school provides a solid educational foundation and nurtures a life-long love of learning.

Who is Elizabeth Buckley?

Nancy Bourey, a teacher and a Speech and Language Pathologist, founded Elizabeth Buckley School in 1986. After hearing of the tragic death of a former student, Ms. Bourey resolved to provide educational opportunities for the deaf and hard of hearing. The name Elizabeth Buckley was chosen to honour Bourey's grandmother, an inspirational teacher in New York. As a struggling young widow, Buckley opened a school in her home, and provided a valuable service to many.
Today Elizabeth Buckley School continues to offer services to hearing impaired students within the context of a more diverse student population. Our classrooms are warm, inclusive environments that focus on individualized education. In keeping with our roots, we offer ASL instruction to all students in the school.
